Personal Testimonials

My son Noah was born three months premature and was incubated and ventilator dependent for close to two years. Consequently, he has an oral aversion to feeding, gastroesophageal reflux, dysphagia, and generally does not like to eat (except when he is on systemic steroids).... We recently introduced Taro Dream® to his diet and since then, he has a new interest in eating. Noah has began to eat consistently and indicates when he wants to eat! We ran out of Taro Dream®  for 2-1/2 days and during that time he refused to eat anything. He began to eat again once we had more Taro Dream®.... I am a firm believer that Taro Dream® has stimulated his appetite and more importantly, his interest in eating. Noah will only eat pureed baby food, but combined with the Taro Dream® he will eat willingly and several times a day. I am grateful that Taro Dream® is an alternative; something that I can offer my son that has no added sugars, is nutritious and is real food.... Mahalo Taro Dream® , for providing Noah with food that is yummy, digestible, and appealing to him!

Dear Pamela,

Samples that you have provided me were given to my grandmother who is now 97 years young. In the last year or two she has been eating less and less as older people normally do. Her diminished eating was severely affecting her health and strength.  When asked why she was not eating as much of the food she had normally consumed over the years, her reply was that she felt that the regular food was not easily digestible at her age, and that it felt like the food was “stuck” in her system. This made her feel very uncomfortable.

Since introducing her to Taro Dream®, she has come to look forward to my bringing the fruit flavors and poi combinations to her. Her appetite, energy and strength seem to be revitalized. With the commercial introduction of your product, I look forward to her improved health and many more additional years as matriarch of our family.

Recently I suffered from a digestive disorder that prevented me from eating and holding down anything that I ate. During that period of time, I was also experiencing (other) health complications. I was very ill and close to death due to my failing health. Taro Dream® literally saved my life! It was the only food that I was able to eat and digest and this delicious food helped me to become strong enough to undergo surgery. Taro Dream® tasted great and even helped me during post surgery recovery. I love the creamy, fruit-flavored Taro Dream®. Thank you very much for your help and kindness in providing some of your wonderful product during my time of distress.

A few months ago I was hospitalized with severe gastrointestinal inflammation. I was told that the condition was most likely chronic and that eventually I might need a section of my small intestine removed, though I would continue having symptoms for the rest of my life. At the time I couldn’t eat anything and had not eaten solid foods for almost a week, but my naturopathic doctor brought me Taro Dream® which was both delicious and easy to digest. With a lot of help from the same doctor I was able to slowly begin eating other foods and work on recovering from my disease. Currently I experience no symptoms, I eat a normal diet and lead an active lifestyle. I feel healthier now than I have for over a year. Taro Dream® played an important role in my somewhat remarkable recovery.

My 3-year old son, Shane, has Downs Syndrome, and has gastrointestinal sensitivity to many foods. Several months ago, after suffering from the flu for 5 weeks, he had lost 6 pounds, and vacillated between severe constipation and diarrhea. Pamela shared several quarts of Taro Dream® with me for Shane, and within two days, he was able to keep solid foods down. His appetite improved greatly and he has regained his normal body weight within 2 months of eating two quarts of Taro Dream® each week. He loves it and calls it ice cream.

I am the mother of a 3-year old girl who loves Taro Dream®. She has been consuming it on an almost daily basis since we were first introduced to this nutritious food product. As a mother, I am delighted that my daughter enjoys such a well-balanced snack, receiving fruit sources, probiotics, and poi in the form of a delicious pudding.... I am also a home care nurse. We serve a vast patient population, elderly folks with all types of medical conditions to medically fragile children that were born premature. I have recommended this product to many people, especially those with digestive difficulties or decreased appetite. I know the benefits of this product. I feel it is important to have nutritious snacks available especially now as there are so many foods on the market that are full of chemicals and refined sugar.

Hello Pamela,

Thank God for sending me your Taro Dream®  and thank God for your developing the poi flakes!  I've been enjoying my dehydrated poi in smoothies for a few weeks now and what a change!  The heartburn that plagued me with everything I ate or drank is now virtually gone.  Its one thing to have the pain gone, but it is quite another wonderful thing to know that the poi is actually healing my digestive system.  I hope I am never without poi in my life.

If it were up to me, you would be given a Pulitzer Prize.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sincerely,
Kitty McKeown

Health Professional Recommendations

As medical professionals, we fully appreciate the need for such a wholesome, nutritional product for health promotion and illness management. Nutrition is one of the most important, yet least understood areas of health care. I fully recognize the need for a nutritional product which patients can easily tolerate.  Some of the most common symptoms experienced by cancer patients include nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, fatigue, and weight loss (all of which contribute to malnutrition and subsequently have a negative impact on the immune system and well being). Taro Dream® has the potential to significantly impact these symptoms and improve QOL in cancer patients. The fact that Taro Dream® is highly digestible, low in allergens, high in phytonutrients, makes it ideal for the cancer population, as well as patients with numerous other health conditions.

As a doctor who has been active in the nutritional arena in the field of alternative and complementary medicine for the last 18 years, I can assure you that there is a tremendous need for these good-tasting poi products.  There is a growing body of anecdotal evidence describing the health promoting impact that poi can have if it is prepared in the manner that you have developed.  I am convinced that many of my nutritionally-oriented colleagues and a growing number of traditionally-oriented family practitioners, as well as dieticians, would welcome your products.

Taro Dream® is easily digestible and nutritious and offers, in many respects, a superior alternative to food choices currently available. Physicians like myself who want patients to be able to transition from a diet that doesn’t serve them to one that does will recommend Taro Dream®. Isn’t it time to acknowledge the broad use of a native Hawaiian food, used for hundreds of years in Hawaii that can favorably impact the health of patients and their families throughout America?

— Ray Rosenthal, M.D.

As a nutritional doctor I think these (Taro Dream®) products are very useful and will increasingly occupy a much needed niche in nutritional medicine. The easy digestibility and low allergenicity of these products makes them very useful for the patient population that I treat. So often the people I treat have become sensitive to soy proteins and are allergic to dairy and eggs.  I (would also) use (Taro Dream®) during detoxification programs and with my (food) sensitive patients.

— Bobbi Spurr, N.D., PhD.

I believe in the healing power of certain foods. Taro Dream® is a living food, stocked with healthy bacteria that promote healing. The product is nutritious, easily digestible and low allergenic. There are no artificial additives, chemical-preservatives and the sweetener is xylose that is not digestible by cavity causing bacteria.  Taro Dream® is a product that has the potential to redeem the health of many. Born and raised here on the Big Island, I am grateful for diligent study of Pamela Day as evidenced in Taro Dream®.

North Hawaii Community Hospital is a full service acute care hospital serving the northern region of the Big Island. We treat a variety of diseases both chronic and acute as well as treating and caring for surgical patients. There are many instances, where a patient is unable to eat solid foods due to anorexia, nausea and vomiting, type of medication taken or because they are post surgical. It is during these conditions that I believe Taro Dream® will play an important role in providing nutrition to our patients. As the Nutritional Services Leader, I am concerned with the type of food served to the patients. It is important that we are serving food that is culturally familiar to the patients as well as nutritionally sound. Taro definitely fits the bill. Taro is easily digestible, of pudding consistency, and the major ingredient in Taro Dream®. Therefore, it could be offered as part of our Full Liquid Diet, Dysphagia Diet (difficulty swallowing), BRATT diet, (rest the gut due to diarrhea and vomiting), Cardiac Diet, Low Sodium Diet, Low Fat Diet, Vegetarian Diet as well as a choice for our Regular Diet. I believe that this product will be one that may be useful here at North Hawaii Community Hospital. It is helpful to know that we can offer a food supplement that is both nutritious and pleasing to the palate which will provide some of the necessary calories that will aid the healing process.

Organisms found in properly prepared poi thrive in a relatively low protein environment is most intriguing, since consuming live cultures of poi with dietary proteins from even marginal sources should help "people metabolize" and assimilate them more efficiently while making these proteins sources simultaneously 1) less allergenic and 2) more nutritious. Those suffering from severe food allergies, all should seriously consider carefully-prepared and, for the most part, hypoallergenic poi products as part of their weekly, if not daily, diet. Properly prepared poi products, containing carefully screened and characterized organisms that are 1) only natural (non-GMO) and 2) only beneficial, show promise in safely retaining and even restoring health by offsetting the ravages of poor diets, food allergies, environmental toxins, and the excessive use of pasteurization and antibiotics in our foods and environments.
